Rudra Guru — Reference
Selecting the correct length, bead diameter, and wrist fit ensures that your piece sits with intention — neither too constrained nor too loose. Use this guide as a practical reference before commissioning or purchasing.
Section I
Mala lengths are determined by bead count. Measurements below are approximate and vary slightly with bead diameter — larger beads produce a longer overall length for the same count.
108-Bead Mala
90 – 100 cm
Full traditional mala
The complete japa mala — worn around the neck or held during meditation. 108 is the sacred count in Vedic tradition, representing the 108 Upanishads and the distance between the Earth and Sun in solar diameters.
54-Bead Mala
45 – 50 cm
Half mala, worn as necklace
Half the sacred count. Suitable as a daily-wear necklace and for shorter japa rounds. Sits naturally at the sternum.
27-Bead Mala
22 – 25 cm
Wrist mala / bracelet length
One quarter of the full count. Wraps the wrist in a single or double loop depending on bead diameter. Commonly used for portable practice.
18-Bead Mala
16 – 18 cm
Compact wrist mala
A minimal wrist piece. Worn as a single loop; ideal for smaller wrists or as a secondary bracelet alongside a 27-bead piece.
Section II
Bead diameter affects the weight, presence, and tactile quality of a piece. Himalayan beads tend to be larger and denser; Indonesian beads are finer and lighter. Both carry the same sacred properties — the choice is one of personal resonance and intended use.
Fine and delicate, with a smooth, refined surface texture. The mukhis are present but subtle — these beads carry their energy quietly.
Suited to — Bracelets, pendants, and layered necklaces where lightness and discretion are desired. Popular for daily wear pieces that move with the body.
The most widely worn size — balanced weight, tactile presence, and clear mukhi definition. Both origins are available, making this the most versatile tier.
Suited to — All-purpose: japa malas, necklaces, and wrist pieces. The standard for most collections and the size most practitioners begin with.
Dense, powerful, and deeply textured. The mukhis are pronounced and unmistakable. Himalayan origin at this size delivers a bead with genuine presence and weight.
Suited to — Traditional japa malas, statement necklaces, and pieces intended for serious daily sadhana. The preferred size for practitioners who want to feel the bead.
Exceptionally rare. Each bead at this size is individually sourced and assessed. The weight is commanding, the energy palpable, and the mukhi definition extraordinary.
Suited to — Statement single-bead pendants, altar pieces, and collector-grade acquisitions. Rarely strung into full malas — the individual bead is the centrepiece.
Museum-grade specimens found only in the highest Himalayan elevations. Profound weight, ancient energy, and extraordinary mukhi definition that can only be appreciated in hand.
Suited to — Altar installation, heirloom pieces, and the most serious collectors. These beads are acquired once in a lifetime. Availability is extremely limited and each piece is documented.
Reference Table
Typical diameter ranges for each mukhi type, by origin. Nepal (Himalayan) beads are consistently larger and denser than Indonesian equivalents. A dash (—) indicates that origin is not commercially available for that mukhi.

Note — Ranges reflect typical market availability. Exceptional specimens may fall outside these ranges. All Rudra Guru beads are individually measured and documented at certification. Contact our advisors for precise dimensions on any specific piece.
Section III
A well-fitted wrist piece should move naturally with the hand without sliding over the knuckle. Follow the steps below to determine your size.
How to Measure
Wrap a soft tape measure or a length of string around the narrowest part of your wrist, just below the wrist bone.
Note the measurement in centimetres. If using string, lay it flat against a ruler.
Add 1 – 1.5 cm for a close, comfortable fit. Add 2 – 3 cm if you prefer a relaxed drape.
Match your adjusted measurement to the size chart below.
Size
Wrist Circumference
S
14 – 15 cm
M
16 – 17 cm
L
18 – 19 cm
XL
20+ cm
Note — If you are between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort. Rudraksha beads have a natural weight that can make a tight fit feel restrictive over time.
